Requiem Mass: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Duncan MacNeil (Dunnachadh Ruaridh of Garrygall) who passed away late on Sunday night in St. Brendan’s Hospital at the age of 70. The Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday 10th August at 11am in Our Lady Star of the Sea. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Congratulations: to Steven Davidson & Claire MacNeil who were married in St. Michaels, Ardkenneth in South Uist on 5th August. Steven & Claire have made their home here on Barra. We wish Mr & Mrs Davidson every blessing and every joy, health and happiness in their marriage. Congratulations and best wishes!
Next Weekend: The Sunday Masses next weekend will be the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Normally this Feast would have been on Monday 15th August but has been moved this year to Sunday 14th August so that can celebrate this important Solemnity of our Lady.
Rosary at Northbay Grotto: next Sunday will be the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady. Therefore a lovely opportunity to pray an outside Rosary at the Northbay Grotto at 3pm. If the weather is poor we will move into the Church.
Recent Baptism: we warmly welcome into the family of the Church Padruig Blacker Whalley who was baptised in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John on Sunday 31st July. We wish Padruig every health, joy and blessings and every blessing upon his parents Eilidh & Craig and the Godparents.
Visiting Priest: we will welcome this week from Monday 8th August to Saturday 13th August Fr. Philip Wrigley who was recently ordained a priest on 16th July in Carlisle which is the Diocese of Lancaster. Fr Philip has been keen to visit the Scottish islands and so he will come to Barra and stay with Canon John Paul for the week. We hope Fr. Philip enjoys his first trip to the island and that the weather will be kind to him.
Quick visit of Cape Breton Seminarians: Also this coming week on Wednesday10th August two seminarians who are training for the Priesthood for the Diocese of Antigonish in Cape Breton will visit the island. They are on their Summer Holiday and doing a tour of some parts of Scotland and especially the islands as they have island connections in their “family tree”. David Rankin & Joe MacMaster will stay with Canon John Paul and hopefully they will come along to the Thursday Mass in Northbay before they head to South Uist.
