Bhileag 5th September 2021

Recent deaths: we pray for the repose of the soul of Calum MacIntyre (Calum Aoidh of Bolnabodach) who passed away in Inverness on Thursday 2nd September. Calum was a lovely man with a great character but in the end Calum needed that peace after giving life it’s all! Calum’s Requiem Mass will take place on Barra on Thursday 16th September in St. Barr’s Church in Northbay. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to all Calum’s family & relatives. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

We pray for the repose of the soul of Gillian MacLean who passed away recently in Glasgow after a long illness. Gillian was married to Archie MacLean (Earsaidh a Rosaich of Garrygall) and she often came to Barra with Archie and her family. Gillian’s funeral will take place in Glasgow. We extend our prayers and love and sympathy to Archie and all the family at this sad time. We pray that Gillian may forever rest in the eternal love and peace of the Risen Lord in the paradise of heaven. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Attending Mass in the Parish: You NO longer need to phone or email or text Canon John Paul about reserving a seat at Sunday Mass or weekday Mass. You can just turn up at the Church and just sign in at the Church Porch with your name & telephone number (for track & trace purposes) and sit anywhere you want in the church. All pews in the Church will be available but we will be sensible in where we sit in the church and respect people’s space. We continue to sanitise our hands as we enter and exit the Church. We still have to wear a face covering at all times in the Church unless you have an exemption. There is still no Sunday Obligation for the moment therefore you can come along to a weekday Mass instead of Sunday.

Sanitising the Church: after every Mass the pews in Church need to be wiped down with Anti-bacterial spray. In some of our bigger churches like Castlebay & Northbay (especially on a Sunday) we need extra hands to help-now that all pews are available to sit on. If you can help just remain behind after Mass. Canon John Paul is so grateful to all those who give of their time to help sanitise all our churches on the island. Moran Taing!

Saturday Morning Mass: has once again returned back to Our Lady Star of the Sea at 10am. Before Mass there is always the lovely opportunity for the sacrament of Confession from 9.30am.

Warm welcome: to Sr. Marie Helen from the Carmelite convent in Kirkintilloch who is staying in the Vatersay Chapel house for a spiritual retreat for a week.

Special Collection: this weekend (4th/5th September) for supporting the sick and retired priests of the Diocese.

Altar servers: Canon John Paul will soon be looking for Altar servers to start helping at Mass.
