Bhileag 29th August 2021

Canon John Paul: will be back on Tuesday (31st August) after his recent break.

Fr. David Stewart: we thank Fr David for looking after the Parishes while Canon John Paul was away. We hope he enjoyed his time on the island and as always we look forward to his return.

Recent Deaths: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Gillian MacLean– wife of Archie MacLean (Eardsaidh a Rosaich) of Garrygall who recently passed away in Glasgow after battling a long illness. Gillian had given it her all and in the end she needed that peace. We pray for Gillian’s soul- that God may be gracious and merciful upon her. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to Archie and all the family and to all relatives, neighbours and friends in Glasgow and here on Barra. Gillian’s Requiem Mass will take place in Glasgow. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

We also remember the repose of the soul of Alex MacLean of Ledaig & Glasgow who passed away recently in Glasgow. Alex too had battled a long illness. Alex’s Requiem Mass took place in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay on Wednesday 25th August and Alex was then laid to rest in Cuithir Cemetery. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Attending Mass in the Parish: You NO longer need to phone or email or text Canon John Paul about reserving a seat at Sunday Mass or weekday Mass. You can just turn up at the Church and just sign in at the Church Porch with your name & telephone number (for track & trace purposes) and sit anywhere you want in the church. All pews in the Church will be available but we will be sensible in where we sit in the church and respect people’s space. We continue to sanitise our hands as we enter and exit the Church. We still have to wear a face covering at all times in the Church unless you have an exemption. There is still no Sunday Obligation for the moment therefore you can come along to a weekday Mass instead of Sunday.

Sanitising the Church: after every Mass the pews in Church need to be wiped down with Anti-bacterial spray. In some of our bigger churches like Castlebay & Northbay (especially on a Sunday) we need extra hands to help-now that all pews are available to sit on. If you can help just remain behind after Mass. Canon John Paul is so grateful to all those who give of their time to help sanitise all our churches on the island. Moran Taing!

Vigil Mass: there is now only one Vigil at 6pm in Craigston Church on Saturday evening.

Saturday Morning Mass: has once again returned back to Our Lady Star of the Sea at 10am. Before Mass there is always the lovely opportunity for the sacrament of Confession from 9.30am.

Special Collection: next weekend (4th/5th September) for supporting the sick and retired priests of the Diocese.

Altar Servers: Canon John Paul plans very soon to start getting the Altar servers back to helping at Mass.
