Bhileag 25th February 2018

Stations of the Cross: an important devotion in Lent is to pray the Stations of the Cross. Today on the 2nd Sunday of Lent there will be Stations of the Cross at 4.00pm in St. Barr’s in Northbay. There will also be Stations of the Cross through the week- immediately after morning Mass on Thursday in Northbay and on Friday in Vatersay. Also there will be Stations of the Cross at 7.30pm on Wednesday after the evening Mass in Craigston.

Lapaich:  Fr. John Paul will visit the housebound this week on the usual days of Monday & Wednesday in Castlebay Parish and on Tuesday in Eoligarry & Northbay. If there is anyone you know who would appreciate a visit from the priest with the sacraments please speak with Fr. John Paul.

Craigston Evening Mass: please note there will be an evening Mass at 7.00pm in Craigston during Lent which gives a good opportunity to those who are working to go to Mass mid-week for Lent.

Sacrament of Confession: Lent is a time of seeking God’s mercy and forgiveness through the Sacrament of  Confession. Saturday times of Confession are opposite. But also during this Lent there will be an opportunity on Wednesday from 6.30pm-7.00pm in Craigston. Also an opportunity 20 mins before Mass on Tuesday in Eoligarry, Thursday in Northbay & Friday in Vatersay.

SCIAF Wee Boxes: As part of a Lenten journey of Almsgiving, we help to support our Scottish Catholic charity of SCIAF. Please pick up a “Wee Box” and take it home with you. This year SCIAF will help support families in Cambodia.

Rosary:  an important prayer to say during Lent is the Rosary and of course there is special focus on the Sorrowful mysteries of the Rosary. On Tuesday’s after Mass in Eoligarry we will pray the Rosary.

BBC ALBA: many of us may have seen the lovely Gaelic TV programme on BBC ALBA recently called Trusadh- Traisg is CàisgThe Season of Lent”. It was all filmed during Lent last year from the parishes of Benbecula, South Uist and Barra. Bishop Brian and some of our Priests and some of the parishioners from each of the island parishes spoke on the TV programme about the meaning of Lent. Please keep an eye out for it on BBC ALBA (about 9pm). You can also watch it on  BBC I-Player.

Recent Baptism: We warmly welcome into the family of the church NATALIE GILLIES who was baptised last Saturday 17th February in St. Brendan’s Craigston. May almighty God bless Natalie and her parents Marion & Dean and Godparents with every health, peace & happiness in God’s love.

World Day of Prayer: This year the World Day of Prayer will be held in St. Barr’s in Northbay on Friday 2nd March at 7.00pm. After the Service there will be refreshments in the Hall. We are looking for 5 volunteers to help to read the various parts of the service! Any Volunteers? Also looking for donations of some baking on the night! This year the World day of Prayer is written by the Women of Suriname- which is a country in North East South America.

Fr. Vernon Boutiller: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Fr. Vernon who was a priest of Cape Breton and who for a number of years helped in our Diocese in the Parish of Kingussie. Fr. Vernon peacefully passed in Cape Breton and his Requiem Mass was last Monday. Bishop Brian will celebrate a Mass in Kingussie on Tuesday 27th February at 6.30pm for the soul of Fr. Vernon.
