Bhileag 18th April 2021

Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Angela MacLeod of Glen who suddenly and peacefully passed away in her home in Glen at the age of 62. It has come as a shock to the island community how quickly Angela passed away as she was looking so well and even on Saturday she enjoyed a lovely long walk around Vatersay. Angela was very highly thought of within the island community. We remember all Angela’s family and friends at this sad time. May the Risen Lord Jesus comfort all who are mourning. Angela’s requiem Mass will take place on Monday 19th April in Our Lady Star of the Sea and thereafter Angela will be laid to rest in Cuithir Cemetery. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Reserve a seat for Mass: sadly it is one of those annoying things just now that we have to do- to book a seat for Mass. We are familiar with what to do now. If you wish to go to Mass please phone /text /email Canon John Paul and let him know which Mass you would like to go to. If there is a particular Mass you simply want to place your name down for each week then please let Canon Jon Paul and this can be arranged. Also on a Wednesday & Thursday it’s fine to turn up and just sign in at the Church door.  Please note that there is no Sunday Obligation at the moment. Therefore you can treat a weekday Mass as your Sunday Mass just now.

SCIAF Collection:  today we will take up a special collection at all the Sunday Masses for SCIAF. Normally this takes place during Lent but sadly we were unable to do that.  If you could please also hand in your SCIAF wee box as soon as you can so that the money can be counted and sent to SCIAF. Remember for every £1 you give to SCIAF the Government will double!

Canon William Fraser: on  the internet –on Youtube just now -on the “Family House of Prayer in Dalmally “channel there is a lovely 10 minute talk from Canon  William Fraser  about the “Call to Priesthood”. He speaks of his own vocation and the importance of the Holy Mass. Canon Fraser retired a couple of years ago from active parish ministry and now lives in the Dalmally area. Go to Youtube and type in the call to Priesthood Fr. William Fraser and you should find it.

Borve Graveyard Committee: seven names have been given to Canon John Paul for a new Borve Graveyard committee to be formed. Canon John Paul thanks those who have given their names and he will be in touch with them to form a new Committee.

Prayers for the Faithful departed: We remember those whose anniversaries which occur about now……….. Jane MacDonald (Eoligarry), Mary Clare Buchanan (Horve), Belle MacKinnon (Glen), Bridget Galbraith (Glen), Kate Ann McShane (Ardveenish), Bella MacDonald (Glen), Mary Flora MacKinnon (Kentangaval), Archie Campbell (St. Brendan’s Road), Alasdair MacDougall, Mary MacDougall & Mary Campbell Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Gift Aid Envelopes: please pick up your gift aid envelopes if you are signed up for Parish Gift Aid. If anyone is interested in signing up for parish Gift Aid then please speak with Canon John Paul. If you pay tax you can give you Sunday collection as Gift Aid. You can also sign up for gift aid and instead of using an envelope you can set up a monthly bank transfer to either Castlebay parish or Northbay Parish. It is a quick and easy way for the parish to receive extra money. Please give it your consideration as it has been a difficult year financially for the parishes and Gift Aid is certainly a good way to support.

Canon John Paul: will be away to the mainland this week from Monday to Friday. He has his usual annual hospital check-up. It was supposed to be last September but with lockdown and the various restrictions it will now be this coming week. If anyone needs to contact Canon John Paul you can always get him on his mobile number 07951128475.
