Bhileag (Newsletter) 23rd October 2022

Recent Funeral: We pray for the repose of the soul of Mary Flora MacLeod or Loll as we all knew her. Loll was from Vatersay village and she peacefully passed on Thursday 20th October in St. Brendan’s Home where she had been living for the last 4 years. Loll was 82 when she passed away. Sadly Loll moved into St. Brendan’s because of her dementia and there she was looked after by all the staff. Loll’s Requiem Mass took place on Saturday 22nd October in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John on Vatersay and thereafter Loll was laid to rest in Vatersay Graveyard. We also extend our prayers of love and sympathy to all Loll’s family at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Mission Sunday: today (23rd October) is Mission Sunday- when the Church asks us to pray for those who work in the Missions of the Church. Every October we are asked to pray for the Mission of the Church and to support our local Missio Scotland. There will be a special collection to support Missio Scotland. There will be a letter read out at all Masses this weekend. The letter is from Fr. Vincent Lockhart who is the National Director for Missio Scotland. This year there is a particular focus in helping the Church in Ethiopia and its people. Missio Scotland have produced a lovely magazine called “We are Mission”. Please pick one up and read the lovely articles in it. Pope Francis himself asks us to be generous with our prayers and donations for those communities who need our support.

Bishop Brian’s Safeguarding letter: please pick up a copy of the Bishop’s safeguarding letter for 2022.

Children for Sacrament Classes 2022/2023: Canon John Paul has handed into the Schools “Sacrament forms” for parents to fill in for those children who are in P4 and wish their Child to make their First Confession and first Holy Communion. Also forms have been handed to P7 for those Children who wish to be confirmed by Bishop Brian McGee. If parents could fill in the forms and hand them back into the school so that classes can be planned out.
