Death of retired Priest: we pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. Donald Ewen Campbell who has died aged 75. Recently Fr. Donald celebrated 50 years of his priesthood. Fr. Donald was from South Uist and he studied for the Priesthood in Valladolid in Spain. He had been Parish priest in various parishes in the Diocese and he was in St. Barr’s Northbay from 1991-1993. Fr. Donald has been retired for a good number of years and has latterly lived in the parish of Arisaig. May God be gracious and merciful upon his good and humble priest! Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II: The State Funeral of Her Majesty the Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19th September at 11am. Of course everything will be shown on TV. Monday is also a bank Holiday and many things are closed for the day as a mark of respect. After the Funeral service the coffin will travel to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband the Duke of Edinburgh.
Ecumenical Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth II: On Wednesday 21st September at 7pm in St. Brendan’s Church in Craigston there will be an Ecumenical service in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II. The service will be prayers and hymns and readings and giving thanks for her 70 years as Queen. All Welcome.
Book of Condolence for Queen Elizabeth II: Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have left a Book of Condolence in Castlebay Council office but for this weekend it will be available at the back of our Churches only during the Weekend Masses. Therefore in Craigston church on Saturday evening and in Northbay & Castlebay churches on Sunday morning an opportunity to sign the book of Condolence.
Special Collection: today there will be a special collection to help support Vocations for our Diocese.
Wedding: we pray for Caitlin Rea & Allan Russell who will marry in Our Lady Star of the Sea next Saturday 24th September at 2pm. Caitlin & Allan are from Paisley but they have chosen Barra to get married. We remember them in our prayers and pray for a sunny day for them. If any choir members are available to come along and help with the singing of hymns.
Northbay Tea after Sunday Mass: next Tea in the Hall will be Sunday 2nd October!
National Pilgrimage of Relic Tour of St. Bernadette: The relics of St. Bernadette will arrive in Scotland, at Carfin Grotto (Motherwell) on Saturday 24th September and then on Sunday 25th September at 3.00pm a special National Pilgrimage Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Joseph Toal along with the other Bishops of Scotland and with hundreds and thousands of pilgrims from all over Scotland will gather in Carfin Grotto on that Sunday. All Welcome!
Diocese of Argyll & the Isles and the Relics tour: the relics of St. Bernadette will be in Carfin Grotto from 24th September -1st October. On Friday 30th September the Diocese of Argyll & the Isles will join with the Diocese of Motherwell and celebrate together the various liturgies on that day. Bishop Brian McGee will celebrate the Mass at 1pm on Friday 30th September and it will be lovely from those around the Diocese to be able to be there. Over the course of the day (from 8am-10pm) there will be- Morning prayer; Confessions, Rosary, anointing of the sick, Holy Mass (1pm), Liturgy of Water and of course there will be the torchlight procession in the evening. All welcome.
