Funeral: we pray for the repose of the soul of Mary MacLean (Datak a nuno) of Glasgow & Barra who died on the 30th May. Mary lived her life in Glasgow and often came back to Barra to visit. The Funeral will be on Friday 17th June at 11am in Castlebay. Mary’s remains will be received into Castlebay Church the evening before. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

 

Ordination to the Priesthood of Rev. Philip Bua: on Tuesday 21st June the Diocese will celebrate the Ordination of Rev Philip to the Priesthood for our Diocese. The Ordination Mass will begin at 7pm and will be in St. Columba’s Cathedral in Oban. Philip’s first Mass as a newly ordained Priest will then be on Wednesday 22nd June at 10am in St. Columba’s Cathedral. There is an open invitation to everyone to attend. If anyone is interested in going to the Ordination could they let Canon John Paul know so that numbers attending can be put forward.

 

Collection for Rev Philip: We will take up a 2nd collection today which will be given as gift to Philip on his ordination. The day of your ordination is a truly special and important day. Let us be generous in our prayers and support to Philip as he gives his life in service to the church as a Priest for our Diocese of Argyll & the Isles.

 

First Holy Communions: Next Sunday 19th June is the Feast of Corpus Christi and is also the day we celebrate our First Holy Communions on the island. Let us remember the 11 children who will make their First Holy Communion in our prayers- Summer Campbell; Eilidh MacLeod; Charlotte Campbell; Mirren Melville; Olivia MacNeil; Danièal Wilson; Ella Howat; Ealasaid Galbraith; Aiden MacNeil-Smyth; Finlay Paterson; & Daniel Nicholson.

Also after the First Holy Communion Masses the children will gather at St. Columba’s Well in Tangusdale at 3pm for prayers of thanksgiving.

 

St. Brendan’s Cemetery Organisation AGM: On Thursday16th June at 7.30pm in Cobhair Bharraigh there will be an Annual general meeting (AGM) to launch St. Brendan’s Cemetery Organisation. During the AGM a Constitution will be approved. Establishing this organisation with a constitution will help the organisation receive grants to maintain the old Borve Graveyard. If you would like to support the organisation then please come along to the meeting for more information.

 

Wedding: we remember in our prayers Maggs MacNeil & Heckie MacIntosh who will celebrate their wedding in Our Lady Star of the Sea on Saturday 18th June at 2pm. We pray that Maggs and Heckie may be blessed with a lovely day with all their family & friends.
