Bhileag 2nd August 2020
Canon John Paul away: please note that Canon John Paul will be over on the mainland from Monday to Friday this week. If anyone needs to catch up with him he can always be reached on his mobile or by email.
Weekday Mass: is cancelled this coming week.
Sunday Masses begin: public Masses with various restrictions have begun. As well as weekend Mass there is weekday Mass too (sadly not this coming week). Of course there are various restrictions and guidelines in place so that the Masses may begin which we are all following. Since there is the 2 metre social distance within the church- numbers able to attend Mass are greatly reduced. Therefore you must get in touch with Canon John Paul to see if there is space available at Mass. Please phone or email Canon John Paul.
If the weekend Masses are busy you could try and attend Mass through the week . Please try and get in touch with Canon John Paul sooner rather than later if you would like to try and get to Mass. It makes things easier if there are “household bubbles” who can be together on a pew. So think about if you can sit with someone and use that space in the church.
As always if you feel uncomfortable about going back to Church just now during this Coronavirus pandemic -then please don’t go. If you have any hesitation the simple answer is to stay at home and continue to watch Mass online. There is no pressure to go. The Bishops of Scotland have suspended the Sunday Obligation.
Also if you feel you have any symptoms of COVID-19 – like a new continuous cough; a high fever; loss or change in sense of smell or taste then please DO NOT go to Church- instead stay home and isolate.
Face coverings at Mass: you will now have to wear a face covering for Mass. If you have a health condition that prevents you from wearing one, that’s fine. Also those under 5 do not need to wear a face covering
Fr. Philip Conner: wishes to thank all who made him so welcome on his break on Vatersay. He enjoyed his holiday and hopes to return next year with Bosco his dog. We wish Fr. Philip a safe journey back to his parish in Lancaster.
Recent Baptisms: we warmly welcome into the family of the church Charlie James Divers who was baptised on Saturday 25th July in Our Lady Star of the Sea. We also welcome into the family of the church Beau Sunny Hartley who was baptised in St. Barr’s in Northbay on Sunday 26th July. We also welcome into the family of the Church Matthew MacKinnon who was baptised on Friday 31st July in Our Lady Star of the Sea. We wish Charlie, Beau & Matthew and their parents and Godparents every health, happiness and blessings.
Housebound: Canon John Paul is keen to start visiting the housebound (Lapaich) when it is safe to do so. We are still in this time of “lockdown” and we still have to be careful with looking after our housebound. Once it is safe to make visits Canon John Paul will be in touch with the housebound.
Recent Death: we pray for the repose of the soul of the mother of one of our Priests. Norah Convery was the mother of Fr. Danny Convery who is parish priest in Roybridge. Also Fr. Danny has visited Barra a few times himself and helped in the parishes. Norah passed away peacefully in Glasgow last week after a long illness and she will be laid to rest on Monday 3rd August in Glasgow. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to Fr. Danny and all his family at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord. May she rest in peace. Amen.
