Bhileag-28th January 2018

Scottish Catholic Education: There will be a second collection today for Scottish Catholic Education.

Candlemas: next Friday, (2nd February) is the feast of the “Presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple”. We call this day Candlemas- as candles are blessed during the Mass and you are welcome to take home candles for your homes. Jesus is “the light of the world” and the candle is a lovely symbol of letting the light that is Christ into our homes.

First Saturday Devotion: next Saturday (3rd February) is the first Saturday of the month. Our Lady of Fatima encourages us on the first Saturday of each month to go to Mass, pray the Rosary, reflect on the mysteries of the Rosary and to also make a Good confession.

Blessing of St. Blaise: next Saturday (3rd February) is also the Feast of St. Blaise and is the day the church offers a special blessing for throats through the intercession of St. Blaise. Please note during the Mass next Saturday there will be the blessing of throats.

Barra 200 Club: It’s that time of the year again when we renew our subscription to the 200 Club. You can leave your renewal money at the Post office or you can hand it to Mary Sarah. If anyone would like to join the 200 club please speak with Mary Sarah (Tel 810539). Thank you for all your support to the 200 club.

Vatersay Sunday Mass: next Sunday is the first Sunday of February and therefore there will be Mass next Sunday at 4.00pm in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John.

Sign of Peace: for one more week we will stop shaking hands at the “sign of peace” during Sunday Mass and weekday Mass. It is just a small way of trying to stop the spread of the Flu germ which can easily be passed on by shaking hands.

Confirmation Classes: the classes for Castlebay School have begun each Wednesday afternoon, The classes will begin at 2.50pm and end at 3.30pm and then the children will catch the last bus home. It is planned that the Confirmations with Bishop Brian will be Saturday 21st April, the Saturday after Easter Holidays. Let us remember all the children who are preparing for the Sacraments this year in our daily prayers.
