Deacon Philip Bua: is staying in the Vatersay Chapel house just now as he has to isolate for 10 days after arriving from Italy. He will complete his isolation this week. We look forward to welcoming Deacon Philip next weekend at the Weekend Masses.

Prayers for the Faithful departed: We pray for the repose of the soul of Catriona MacLean of Eoligarry (Bhean Andy a Jen) who peacefully passed away in her own home in Eoligarry at the age of 87 on Saturday 26th June. Catriona had not been well for a number of years–having to spend a lot of time away in Glasgow having Kidney Dialysis. A couple of weeks ago she returned home to Barra to find that peace and with her family surrounding her bedside Catriona found that peace. Catriona’s Requiem Mass will be on Monday 28th June at 2pm in St. Vincents in Eoligarry and afterwards Catriona will be aid to rest in Eoligarry Graveyard. Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen. Amen.

We also remember also those whose anniversaries which occur about now…..Sandy Henderson (Eoligarry), Carol MacNeil (Horve & Canada), Morag Buchanan (Kentangaval), Calum MacPhee (Brevig & Ralston), Mary MacNeil-“Bhean Jack” (Garrygall). Elma Boyd (Ardmhor),  Christina MacDougall (Nask) Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Recent Baptism: we warmly welcome into the family of the Church Charlie Morrison who was baptised last Saturday 19th June in St. Barr’s, Northbay. We wish Charlie and his family and Godparents every blessing.

Fisherman’s Mass: sadly this year there will be NO Fishermans Mass due to the Coronavirus pandemic restrictions. We are in level zero on the island and we are moving in the right direction but we still have to be very cautious and therefore Canon John Paul has decided for this year again that there will be no Fishermans Mass on the Pier.

Instead on Sunday 11th July afternoon (which is Sea Sunday)  Canon John Paul will visit Ardveenish Pier, Northbay pier, Castlebay Marina and Vatersay Pier and he will bless the boats that are there. Times will be announced later when Canon John Paul will visit the various piers for the blessing.

New Dawn in Scotland: the 12th Annual conference of the Catholic New Dawn conference will be online this year because of Covid Restrictions.  It will be from the evening of Friday 9th July to Sunday 11th July. This year’s theme for the conference is “Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name, you are mine”. Throughout the 3 days there will be 5 talks that follow the 5 themes of New Dawn- the Holy Spirit, Reconciliation, Healing, Mary the Mother of the Church & Evangelisation. In addition there is a Saturday morning slot for children. These can be joined through Eventbrite as directed on the New Dawn in Scotland Website. Please check it out!

Burial of Ashes: on Monday 28th June there will be a Mass in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John at 11.00am for the burial of Ashes of the late Michael MacLean (from Vatersay & Largs). Michael died last year in Largs during the first lockdown in March. It was Michael’s wish to return to Vatersay to be laid to rest. The Mass will be at 11.00am and then burial of Ashes at 12 noon in Vatersay cemetery.

Wedding: after the chaos of last year and the cancellations of  so many weddings we now look forward to  the first wedding in the parish this coming Thursday (1st July).
