Bhileag 27th February 2022

Ash Wednesday:  this coming Wednesday (2nd March) is Ash Wednesday and is the beginning of the holy season of Lent in the Church. Please note the 3 Mass times-

10.00am Northbay,

12 Noon Craigston

7.00pm Castlebay.

Day of Fast & Abstinence: Ash Wednesday is a day of “Fast & Abstinence”. A day we do not eat meat and a day we fast by not eating as much as we normally do.

Pope Francis: encourages the universal Church on Ash Wednesday (2nd March)  to pray and fast together and offer up all prayers for peace in Ukraine. Pope Francis is very upset with the invasion of Russia into Ukraine. Our Holy Father asks us all to pray for peace at this time in Ukraine. May Our Lady the Queen of peace intercede in our prayers.

Day of Prayer for those who have suffered abuse: next Friday (4th March) the Catholic Church will unite and pray for all whose who have suffered from abuse. At the Mass next Friday in Vatersay we will remember in a special this important prayer intention.

The Season of Lent: will begin on Wednesday. Let us start thinking now what we will give up for Lent or what extra we can do for Lent this year. The last two years we have missed out truly embracing Lent because of Church Covid restrictions. Let us embrace this Lent and make it a time of great blessings and graces for us all.

The SCIAF “Wee Boxes”: have arrived and are available at the church entrance. SCIAF is focusing on Climate change and our fight to look after the world and the climate. SCIAF will also be helping projects in Malawi this year.

Stations of the Cross: an important devotion in Lent is Stations of the Cross.

Lenten Prayer Books: there are some prayer books available in the church entrance. Lent is a wonderful time to pick up our prayer books and walk closely with our Lord for the next 40 days of Lent.

Special collection: today we will take up a special collection for the “Diocesan Pastoral fund”. A fund to help support pastoral projects in the Diocese.

Restoring the Sunday Mass Obligation: The Scottish Catholic Bishops have announced that the obligation for Sunday Mass will begin next Sunday with the First Sunday of Lent (6th March).
