Bhileag 20th March 2022

Stations of the Cross: on this 3rd Sunday of Lent there will be Stations of the Cross at 4.00pm in St. Brendan’s, Craigston.

Second Collections for Ukraine: Canon John Paul wishes to thank everyone who has given to the 2nd collections over these last 2 weeks. The money has been sent to SCIAF and they will in turn pass the donations onto CARITAS who are one of the main big charities involved directly in the Ukraine support.

SCIAF: next Sunday is the 4th Sunday of Lent and we always focus our attention on the good work of SCIAF. There will be a letter read out at all Masses on behalf of Bishop Joseph Toal. There will also be a 2nd collection for SCIAF but this time for the projects in Malawi.

Prayers for Peace in Ukraine:  Our Holy Father Pope Francis continually asks us to keep praying for peace at this time in Ukraine. Let us use this holy time of Lent to pray each day for the people of Ukraine and to pray for peace. May Our Lady of Fatima- the Queen of peace intercede in all our prayers.

Act of Consecration: all Bishops and Priests have been asked by Pope Francis to join him in an Act of Consecration of Russia & Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This will happen next Friday 25th March (Feast of the Annunciation) at 4pm.

Sunday Mass Obligation: the obligation for Sunday Mass has once again returned. We should now be making every effort to return back to Sunday Mass- returning back to the Lord Jesus, the Good Shepherd who is always waiting for us at the holy Altar.

Sacrament of Confession: Lent is a penitential time when we turn to the mercy and forgiveness of God. Our focus in Lent is on the Cross. The Lord Jesus died on the Cross to take our sins away. It is only through the Sacrament of Confession that our sins are taken away. As St. Padre Pio beautifully said “Confession is the soul’s bath”.

Gift Aid Envelopes: next weekend the new sets of Parish Gift Aid envelopes will be available in the Church. If you pay tax you are welcome to sign up for Gift Aid. Please think about it!

Deanery Meeting: Canon John Paul will be heading over to South Uist this coming Thursday to meet with the rest of the island priests for a Deanery meeting. This is the first time the island priests have been able to meet face to face for a Deanery meeting in 2 years. Over the last 2 years everything has been online with Zoom!!

Thursday Mass: please note the Mass on Thursday in Northbay will be in the evening at 7.00pm. It will be just for this week so that Canon John Paul can attend the Deanery meeting.
