Bhileag 1st May 2022

Recent Death: we were all saddened to hear of the death of Iain MacKinnon (Iain a’ Noon of Glen) who peacefully passed away in St. Brendan’s Hospital at the age of 87. Iain was a faithful parishioner to Our Lady Star of the Sea. Always offering to help in the Church with anything and everything. A faithful Passkeeper at Sunday Mass and always ready to paint or change a light bulb in Church- always willing to help. You could always depend on Iain for anything at the Church. Iain’s Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday 4th May in Our Lady Star of the Sea at 11.30am. On Monday 2nd May and Tuesday 3rd May at 7.00pm the Rosary will be prayed in Castlebay Church for the repose of the soul of Iain. We extend our prayers, love and sympathy to Iain’s wife Mairi Floraidh and to all the family and relatives at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

We continue our prayers for the repose of the soul of  Margaret Ann MacLean of Allasdale & Dunoon who died on Saturday 23rd April in Dunoon aged 58. It is planned that Margaret Ann will be brought back to Barra for burial. As yet we wait to hear of when this will happen. However at this time we keep all the family in our prayers -especially Margaret Ann’s mum Floraidh and all the family, relatives and friends.  Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Month of May: we now enter the lovely month of May which is the month of Mary and an important time of praying the Rosary. Let us use this month to pray the Holy Rosary and pray for Our Lady’s love to help guide us in the ways of faith especially during this Easter time.

May Devotions: Rosary & Benediction today (Sunday 1st May) in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay at 4.00pm.

SCIAF Boxes: please hand into the church as soon as you can.

Gift Aid Envelopes: the new set of Parish Gift Aid envelopes are available in the Church for collection for those who have signed up for Gift Aid. Please remember if you pay tax you are welcome to sign up for Gift Aid. Please think seriously about it! It is a good way for the parish to earn extra income.

Synod Questionnaire: As we know Pope Francis is keen to hear from all corners of the church throughout the world about what they think of the Church in these times and what they feel could be good changes in the church. There is a questionnaire with 8 questions for parishioners to take home which are at the church entrance. Take home the questionnaire and return back to the Church as soon as you can. Please pass on the questionnaire to other family members especially those who do not attend Mass regularly. Pope Francis is keen to hear from all people so please fill in a questionnaire and return back to the church. All information gathered will be sent to Fr. Danny Convery who is the Priest in charge of pulling together all the Synod information.

Synod Meeting: there will be an open meeting for any parishioner to come along to an informal gathering in St. Barr’s Hall on Wednesday 11th May at 7.00pm. Everyone is welcome and we will hear a bit more about the Synod process. As well as Canon John Paul being there –also Katie MacNeil (Castlebay parish) & Christine Galbraith (Northbay parish) will help at the meeting. Katie & Christine are the two parish helpers with the Synod. All welcome!

Canon John Paul & Lourdes: Canon John Paul did have plans to go to Lourdes on pilgrimage at the end of this week for 10 days with the ACROSS Jumbulance as a Chaplain. But there is an issue with getting a new Passport. If his passport arrives by Tuesday he will go to Lourdes but if the passport does not arrive then he will be staying.
