Bhileag 16th August 2020

Sunday & Weekday Masses: to attend any Mass you must contact with Canon John Paul to see if there is space available at Mass. Please phone or email Canon John Paul.

If the weekend Masses are busy you could try and attend Mass through the week .

Please try and get in touch with Canon John Paul sooner rather than later if you would like to try and get to Mass.

It makes things easier if there are “household bubbles” who can be together on a pew. So think about if you can sit with someone and use that space in the church.

As always if you feel uncomfortable about going back to Church just now during this Coronavirus pandemic -then please don’t go. If you have any hesitation the simple answer is to stay at home and continue to watch Mass online. There is no pressure to go. The Bishops of Scotland have suspended the Sunday Obligation.

Also if you feel you have any symptoms of  COVID-19 – like a new continuous cough; a high fever; loss or change in sense of smell or taste then please DO NOT go to Church- instead stay home and isolate.

Recent Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Roderick Leslie MacKechnie (or Leslie as we all knew him) who peacefully passed away in St. Brendan’s hospital at the age of 80. Sadly Leslie had not kept well for a long time and in the end he very much needed that peace. The funeral took place on Tuesday 11th August in Our Lady Star of the Sea and afterwards Leslie was laid to rest in Cuithir Cemetery. We extend our prayers and sympathy to Mary Margaret and all the family at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Face coverings at Mass: you now have to wear a face covering at Mass. If you have a health condition that prevents you from wearing one, that’s fine. Also those under 5 do not need to wear a face covering

Housebound visits: if any of the housebound would like a visit from Canon John Paul -can they phone him so that a day and time can be arranged for a visit. We are only in phase 3 of this coming out of  “lockdown” in our country and we still have to be very careful about looking after one another especially the elderly. However if any of the housebound (Lapaich) would like a short visit from Canon John Paul with the sacraments please let him know and he will be happy to visit. It would only be a short visit and Canon John Paul will wear a face covering and he will use hand sanitiser when he visits- following all safety government guidelines.

Funeral Mass numbers: A present it is still 20 people who are able to attend a funeral mass. Names attending a Requiem Mass have to be recorded and handed to Canon John Paul.

Baptisms: the Scottish Government have said that 50 people can attend a Baptism in a Church.

Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate: On Monday 17th August Bishop Brian will ordain Tony Livesey as a permanent Deacon during Mass in Portree Catholic Church. Tony is a faithful parishioner of Portree and he is a very active member of the parish  and over the last four  years he has been studying and training to become a deacon which will be a great help and support to the parish of Skye. Tony is in charge of our Diocesan safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults and we are pleased for Tony that he will be ordained a deacon. We extend our prayers of love and support to Tony as he prepares for his Diaconate Ordination.
