SCIAF Collection for flood Victims in Pakistan: as we have seen on the news recently the terrible floods in Pakistan which is now in a state of emergency. More than 33 million have been affected by the floods. Over 1000 people have died and over 1 million homes have been destroyed. SCIAF are helping to support those who are in need of food, water and shelter. We will take up a special collection for SCIAF.
Recent Baptism: we warmly welcome into the family of the Church Amy MacInnes who was baptised on Saturday 3rd September in Our Lady Star of the Sea. We wish Amy every blessing and every health and happiness.
Wedding: we remember in our prayers Claire MacNeil & Angus Telfer who will marry in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay next Saturday 10th September at 2pm. Let us pray for some good weather for the Wedding day. If any choir members are available you are welcome to come along to the Mass.
Canon John Paul: will be away from Monday to Friday this week on the mainland. Therefore no weekday Masses till Saturday. If you need to catch up with him then please phone the mobile.
Northbay Tea after Sunday Mass: it is planned to have a parish tea after the Sunday 9.30am Mass in Northbay once a month. Everyone likes a tea or coffee and a wee blether!! We will try it out and see how it goes! We will start today after the Sunday Mass!
Venerable Margaret Sinclair Pilgrimage: There will be the National Pilgrimage for the Beatification of Venerable Margaret Sinclair on Sunday 18th September. The Mass will be at 4.30pm in St. Patrick’s Church, Cowgate in Edinburgh. Before the Mass there is Rosary (2pm), Confessions, Adoration and Benediction (2.20pm-3.15pm). A talk by Dr. John Watts will be at 3.15pm.
Margaret Sinclair was born in 1900 in Edinburgh. She worked for McVitie’s biscuit factory in Edinburgh but then felt drawn to religious life and joined the Order of the Poor Clares in London when she was 23. She used the religious name Sr. Mary Francis of the five wounds. Sadly at the age of 25 she died of Tuberculosis. Archbishop Cushley of St Andrews and Edinburgh is once again encouraging the Catholic Church in Scotland to come together and pray that Margaret Sinclair will be elevated from Venerable to Blessed and then to Saint. Her Shrine is in the church of St. Patrick’s in the centre of Edinburgh. Many people go to pray at her tomb for miracle cures and intercession.
National Pilgrimage of Relic Tour of St. Bernadette: The relics of St. Bernadette will arrive in Scotland, at Carfin Grotto (Motherwell) on Saturday 24th September and then on Sunday 25th September at 3.00pm a special National Pilgrimage Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Joseph Toal along with the other Bishops of Scotland and with hundreds and thousands of pilgrims from all over Scotland will gather in Carfin Grotto on that Sunday. All Welcome!
Diocese of Argyll & the Isles and the Relics tour: the relics of St. Bernadette will be in Carfin Grotto from 24th September -1st October. On certain days each Diocese in Scotland will help lead prayers, and Holy Mass and other liturgies. On Friday 30th September the Diocese of Argyll & the Isles will join with the Diocese of Motherwell and celebrate together the various liturgies on that day. Bishop Brian McGee will celebrate the Mass at 1pm on Friday 30th September and it will be lovely from those around the Diocese to be able to be there. Over the course of the day (from 8am-10pm) there will be- Morning prayer; Confessions, Rosary, anointing of the sick, Holy Mass (1pm), Liturgy of Water and of course there will be the torchlight procession in the evening. All welcome.
